Blog Entry #10 Awful Product placement in the Transformers Movies

The Transformers franchise has the most blatant and egregious product placement of all time. The Films are 2-hour-long commercials. The first film had 64 instances of product placement, the second had 45, the third had 68, and the fourth had 55. When product placement is done well you don't even notice that you are being advertised to, but the transformers films have never done product placement well. I'm gonna go over the worst instances in these films but I encourage you to go back and watch one for a good laugh and to see why they deserve such poor ratings. The Beats Pill Few moments stick out in my memory about transformers 4 more than when they shoved a Bluetooth speaker in the audience's face during the introduction of the single most important plot point of the film. When the scientist introducing artificial transformers makes a Beats Pill. This kind of in-your-face advertising breaks the immersion in what is supposed to be a sci-fi movie. BUD-LIGHT If the Beats Pill...

Blog entry #9 Media's impact on our lives

In the era of the internet media is the most common way we interact with the world. We have seemingly infinite ways to interact with others and get information from the palm of our hands. Where previously we would only have a few news channels, we now get to see everything going on in the world as it happens. This ease of access to entertainment, communication, and information has led many of us to be online an unhealthy amount. Due to me never wanting to be bored I fill any downtime with social media to the point that I never relax without my phone in my hand. Many studies have shown a link between mental health and heavy use of social media. As humans, we tend to measure ourselves up to others and when everyone's photos are curated to make them seem perfect it can give you the wrong idea about everyone else. Another negative to the ease of access to news and media is the desensitization of tragic events to the point that it seems normal. It seems like every other week there is ...

Blog Entry #8 Ranking of kings

Ranking of kings     Ranking of kings is an anime that just finished airing that blew everyone's expectations away. At first, I dismissed this series because the main character is a child and the animation style makes it seem like it's for kids, However, now that I've watched it I can say with certainty that this show is well worth watching.  Despite the show's fairytale aesthetic, it has its fair share of serious moments. The author has managed to create a dynamic world that keeps viewers at the edge of their seats waiting for what happens next. If you enjoy action and a heartfelt story that will make you feel for the characters I would recommend you watch this show.  Every character has their own motivations that we learn over the course of the story, characters aren't just evil for the sake of it. The main character Bojji is the first prince of his kingdom but is incredibly weak and struggles to communicate with others on account of him ...

Blog Entry #7 Hashtags

Hashtags are a very prominent but overlooked tool when you think about social media. They do everything from curating the content you want to view to bringing awareness to activism and advertising. If you've been to the movies in the last decade you will have noticed that after every movie trailer there is a hashtag associated with the movie. The #ad is most commonly used to disclose paid sponsorship by an influencer or celebrity to follow FTC guidelines.  Hashtags are also used to spread awareness and support a cause that you believe in. The #METOO movement is a way that women who were victims of sex crimes share their stories and promote action against those that have harmed them and to prevent more harm in the future. Now that the Me Too movement has gotten so much media coverage, other groups see the usefulness of hashtags to promote their cause. Personally, I've almost never used hashtags and I've just let social media algorithms curate the content I consume. I don...
