Blog Entry #1

Blog Direction

Blogs can be very hit or miss, because of the freedom the author has they have the power to make or break a blog. Things like structure, design, topics, and rhetoric have an effect on the reader. Even the greatest blogs can be overlooked because they are poorly designed. I, therefore, decided to look at other blogs to find what I enjoy.

One of the blogs I looked at was Engadget, which is all about new technology and entertainment. It does a great job of compiling news that's hard to keep up with. The thing I took away the most was the variety of objective and opinionated writing. Sometimes I just want to know the facts and sometimes I want someone else to tell me what to think. https://www.engadget.com/

Fast company is a place to look for professional news and advice. Although I'm not their demographic, they do have very well-structured articles and some topics that are genuinely very interesting.

Such as https://www.fastcompany.com where they discuss fulfillment in the workplace. What I take away the most from them is choosing topics that can be interesting to anyone and having a good and easily accessible design. Their purpose is to help give people career advice.

"Moore in Dallas" is a personal Blog made by Brandon Moore that details his adventure in Dallas as well as thoughts he would like to share. I like how much personality is put into this blog, unlike the professional blags that seemed too focused on monetization. this blog is closer to something I would like to do, something with no set structure. The purpose of his blog is to promote people and places in the local community and talk about his ideas and experiences.
